FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are you competitors with Gaz Métro?

No. Gaz Métro’s profits do not come from the sale of natural gas, but from the usage of its distribution network. They are completely indifferent whether a gas user buys its gas supply directly from a supplier or not. Athena Energy Marketing Inc. is in the business of securing natural gas supply for buyers at a price that best suits their needs. It is actually in the best interest of Gaz Métro for you to source your gas from a company such as Athena, because we provide a valuable service that they cannot; a fixed price.

Do not give your Gaz Métro’s account number to anyone until you are ready to transact.  It is confidential information, which can be misused.

  • What can I do to beat Gaz Métro’s reference price?

The price charged by Gaz Métro will generally move in line with the market and no one knows ahead of time where the market will go.  The supplier cannot guarantee that its fixed price offer will beat the distributor’s variable price, but nor can the distributor guarantee that its variable price will beat the supplier’s fixed price. For clients who want to eliminate this uncertainty, Athena Energy offers a wide range of products geared towards budget stability.

  • Why should I fix my price?

By knowing ahead of time how much each unit of energy will cost you, you will:
    1. Avoid serious financial troubles if prices spike.
    2. Benefit from budget stability.
    3. Be able to focus on your core competencies and you won’t have to worry about the market’s erratic nature.
    4. Given forecasts on supply and demand tightness in the natural gas markets, it could represent substantial savings for your business.
  • What is the difference between an “agent”, (or “broker”) and a “supplier”?

Agents and brokers act as intermediaries between an end user and the supplier. They negotiate the contract between the two counterparties but do not purchase or sell natural gas contracts themselves.
A supplier is a company that is either a producer of natural gas that sells its production directly to very large end-users, or a marketing company that buys and then sells the contracts to consumers.  Athena Energy Marketing is a natural gas supplier that has a purchase agreement with Shell Energy North America (Canada) Inc. Shell is one of the largest and most financially secure natural gas supplier in the world.

  • How will I be billed?

For the Gaz Métro Fixed Price Program, the contracted price will be billed directly on your Gaz Métro’s invoice at no additional cost.
For others, you will benefit from our custom invoicing system, English or French, and you can choose from Buy/Sell or Bundle-T type arrangements, depending on credit evaluation. Our invoices are among the clearest and most adapted to our market in the industry. Athena Energy also generates all of Shell Energy North America (Canada) Inc.’s invoices for Quebec based buyers.
