Natural gas accounts for almost a quarter of US energy consumption, and around 30% in Canada.  Between 2005 and 2020, the EIA projects that US natural gas demand will increase by nearly 20%, from 22 to 26.1 Tcf per year. Others, such as Cambridge Energy Research Associates, expect gas consumption to increase by about 37% over that period.
